Im Haus Bonngasse 20 wurde im Dezember 1770 der heute auf der ganzen Welt berühmte Komponist Ludwig van Beethoven geboren. In seinem Geburtshaus befindet sich ein Museum. Über 150 originale Ausstellungsobjekte - handschriftliche Partituren, Porträts, Instrumente, Briefe und persönliche Gegenstände - informieren hier über Beethovens Leben und Werk. Wechselnde Sonderausstellungen beleuchten verschiedene Aspekte. Neben dem Museum gehören auch die Forschungsstelle Beethoven-Archiv, ein moderner Kammermusiksaal und ein Verlag zum Beethoven-Haus. Außerdem befindet sich hier die größte und vielfältigste Beethoven-Sammlung der Welt. Das Beethoven-Haus ist heute eine moderne Kultureinrichtung, die international als Beethoven-Kompetenzzentrum hochangesehen ist. Getragen wird das Beethoven-Haus von dem Verein Beethoven-Haus, der 1889 von 12 Bonner Bürgern gegründet wurde, um das Geburtshaus Beethovens vor dem drohenden Abriss zu bewahren. 1893 wurde es bereits als Museum eröffnet. Heute zählt der Verein rd. 800 Mitglieder im In- und Ausland. Gefördert wird das Beethoven-Haus von der Bundesregierung, dem Land Nordrhein-Westfalen und der Stadt Bonn. Außerdem unterstützen zahlreiche Stiftungen, Unternehmen und Privatpersonen die Kultureinrichtung. Every year, around 100,000 people from all over the world visit the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn where Ludwig van Beethoven was born in December 1770. As early as 1893 the house on Bonngasse 20 was opened as a museum by the Beethoven-Haus association. Today, more than 150 original exhibits from the world’s most extensive Beethoven collection, among them instruments and personal items of the composer, letters, portraits, printed music and much more, give an impression of Beethoven’s life and work. Changing special exhibitions on many aspects of the composer’s life make an exciting experience. But the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn is more than just a museum. As a modern cultural institution it includes various work areas: Museum, chamber music hall, research facility (Beethoven archive) and publishing house. In line with its tradition of collecting and preserving, researching and explaining, presenting, publishing and interpreting, the Beethoven-Haus serves as a competence centre for all questions about Beethoven. Called a “thorough piece of art” among the German composer institutes, it belongs to the most renowned institutions of this kind in the world. The Beethoven-Haus ist funded by the German government, by the country Northrhine-Westphalia and the City of Bonn. Basis of all activities is the Beethoven House Society which was founded in 1889 to prevent Beethoven's birthplace from demolition. The museum was already opened in 1893. Today, the society has about 800 members throughout the world.
